Rid Yourself of Pests Once and for All

When the weather turns cooler, mice, spider, and insects often take refuge from the cold inside buildings and homes. Once you have an infestation, you'll probably need the help of pest control specialists. To keep this from happening, prevention is the way to go.

Spiders and mice most often come indoors through cracks in your foundation, gaps around spigots, and other openings around windows and doors. To seal these cracks up, you will need to apply caulk or repair the trim around openings. Remember that these animals are very small and can squeeze through the tiniest of spaces, so it is important to adequately seal up any gaps.

You can also make your home less appealing to these pests. The best way to do this is to eliminate any food sources for them. Food should not be left out in the open in your kitchen overnight. You should also sweep daily to eliminate any food left on your floors. Any food items in your pantry or pet food should be stored in sealed metal or plastic containers. Bags and cardboard boxes are no match for those mouse teeth.

Spiders eat other insects, so it is best to ensure that no insects have easy access to your home. Use window screens or keep your doors and windows shut. Spiders also like to have an undisturbed place to build their webs. Regular dusting and vacuuming, along with daily sweeping, will keep them from building webs, which in turn keeps them from catching their food. Don't forget to dust and vacuum seldom used areas, like corners of rooms, storage areas, and basements as well. Eliminating clutter from your home can help too.

Outside of your home, remove any piles of wood or debris that are up against the walls of your home. Trim branches, grass, and other plant growth that right up against your house. This discourages spiders and mice from taking up residence near your residence.
