The Sixth Annual Ascent Speaker Luncheon presented by local nonprofit, Explore Austin, will feature guest speaker Sarah Moshman, an Emmy Award-winning documentary filmmaker and TEDx speaker. Get a much-needed dose of inspiration when you register to attend this transformative event on Wednesday, September 25th!
Moshman has worked on hit shows like Dancing with the Stars and directs compelling documentaries surrounding female empowerment, gender equality, and harassment. Her Netflix film, Losing Sight of Shore, follows the incredible journey of four women who rowed across the Pacific Ocean. The film was released globally in 190 countries in 2017.
Prior to working in documentaries, Sarah worked as a field producer on the hit ABC show Dancing with the Stars for 10 seasons, as well as shows on NBC, MTV, Lifetime, Bravo, and the Food Network. Sarah is an inspiring public speaker and an adjunct professor in documentary film. She is passionate about empowering the next generation of storytellers.
Explore Austin uses mentoring, leadership, and outdoor adventure to empower youth to reach their full potential. Through a leadership-based outdoor adventure curriculum coupled with social-emotional learning components and long-term mentoring, Explore Austin is improving the well-being of each participant, their families, and the community.
This event will be held at the Line Austin Hotel. Once home to a jazz club that broadcast live on local radio in the late 1960s, the hotel is part of downtown Austin history and carries with it a storied legacy that the Line seeks to foster and continue. The redesign of the 1965 building, a collaboration between Austin architect Michael Hsu and LA-based designer Sean Knibb, showcases art by emerging local artists throughout the property. The Line also hosts events and programs that build on the hotel’s historic cultural contribution and pay tribute to the unique character of Austin.
