This Iconic Rock Opera Was Released in 1969, Now, You Can See It In a Whole New Light

Spend your Saturday evening with rock royalty! The Who’s Tommy is a sensory-defying rock and roll experience. Based on the iconic 1969 rock concept album, it is an exhilarating story of hope, healing, and the human spirit. Catch it at The City Theatre Company this Saturday, September 29th.

After witnessing the accidental murder of his mother's lover by his father, Tommy is traumatized into catatonia and, as the boy grows, he suffers abuse at the hands of his sadistic relatives and neighbors. As an adolescent, he's discovered to have an uncanny knack for playing pinball and, when his mother finally breaks through to him, he becomes an international pinball superstar.

The story of the pinball-playing, deaf, dumb, and blind boy who triumphs over his adversities has inspired and amazed audiences for more than 40 years. Translated to the stage by Des McAnuff, this five-time Tony Award-winning musical is a high-energy, one-of-a-kind theatrical event and features an exhilarating score that has made it a smash-hit around the world.

Inspiration for The Who's Tommy was drawn directly from the 1969 concept album, Tommy by the legendary rock band, The Who. The work was the first album in history to be billed overtly as a rock opera and, in its original release, rocketed the band from somewhat-known single artists into what is now regarded as one of the best and best-known rock bands of all time.

The Who’s Tommy will be performed live from September 7th to September 30th. Purchase tickets online or at the box office.
